Discover the limitless possibilities of digital fashion
The future of fashion is virtual!
A revolution is happening in the world of fashion. A digital rebellion that goes far beyond closets stuffed with outfits. Extremely Instagramable pixel couture, fashionable skins for game characters, and last but not least: 3D design solutions to digitalize and cleanse the fashion industry. In the new exhibition Screenwear: exploring digital fashion, Design Museum Den Bosch explores digital fashion. 4DR Studios joins the expedition.
Apparel made of pixels instead of cotton, wool, or polyester isn’t as far-fetched as you’d expect. Boundaries between fashion, gaming, and social networks are fading, turning the virtual world into a high-potential fashion outlet. Ideal for gamers who want to dress their Fortnite and Sims characters in simulated designer outfits or are to attend a concert in full fashion-forward mode. And for fashionistas to strut their stuff on social media, donned in striking designs unaffordable in real life. Virtual, yet surprisingly realistic, Emperor’s new clothes. Without adverse effects such as pollution, waste mountains, and poor working conditions.
Hyper-realistic holograms in high fashion
Visitors of the exhibition Screenwear: exploring digital fashion in Design Museum Den Bosch plunge into the fantastic possibilities this future-orientated take on fashion entails. Questions such as ‘what exactly is digital fashion?’, ‘how do I wear it?’ and ‘how are industry and society affected by it?’. Above all, the exhibition is all about experiencing future fashion. Visitors can create their own fashion-conscious avatars while showing off the funkiest digital creations on their socials. Here, they also meet hyper-realistic models dressed in designs of the next generation of couturiers, pushing the limits of reality.
Troll doll on steroids
Up-and-coming talents such as Finish designer Leevi Ikäheimo, winner of the Designer’s Nest Award 2022 Exhibition Prize. His critically acclaimed collection ‘NO PAIN NO GLAMOUR’ is a satirical statement on how a particular body image is force-fed to us from an early age. In his collection, avatars with distorted silhouettes show their true, bright colors. To put it in Leevi’s words: ‘Like a bodybuilder rave troll doll on steroids.’ With New Order of Fashion, an international platform for fashion talent, 4DR Studios breathes life into a small part of the digital collection. In Design Museum Den Bosch, the fashionable fragments turn into three-dimensional holograms in full effect and full, natural flow.

To optimally capture the essential natural movement of the two selected creations, our model/dancer performed a brief capoeira choreography on 4DR Studios’ volumetric capturing stage. We caught this gracious, energetic dance with both outfits in one volumetric video, seamlessly morphing both garments together. This joint production perfectly displays the power of volumetric video. Fashion mission fulfilled!
