The Holographic Patient
A human layer on medical training
The Holographic Patient is a mixed-reality learning experience developed in collaboration with Fontys Mens en Gezondheid.
Students train on a medical mannequin, just as they are used to. Through volumetric capture, a real human layer is placed over it: a holographic patient who breathes, moves and can display different symptoms.
This creates a training situation that remains familiar, but comes much closer to reality.
Training with realistic scenarios
The teacher can choose from different medical scenarios, such as an allergic reaction or Kussmaul breathing. The holographic patient can respond to both good and poor student actions, allowing the situation to develop in different ways.
Students practise not only technical skills, but also observation, clinical reasoning and responding under pressure.
Technology in service of healthcare education
Together with Fontys Mens en Gezondheid, this project explores how mixed reality can make healthcare training more realistic and more human.
The medical mannequin remains the physical anchor point.
The volumetric capture layer brings the patient to life.
A safe environment to practise.
A realistic encounter to learn from.
