4DR Studios and Effenaar Smart Venues present Chronosphere portfolio

DDW 22: Get set for digital humans in the metaverse!

It’s time for the 2022 edition of Dutch Design week! From October 22nd, Eindhoven is packed with experimental projects, creative crossovers, and refreshing innovations. Right up the alley of 4DR Studios and Effenaar Smart Venues. So, we converted our Videolab at the creative hotspot Strijp-S into a gallery. Come meet our community of holograms!

In the 25 years of its existence, Dutch Design Week has evolved into the largest design event in Northern Europe. Over 2.600 designers present their designs and concepts to more than 350.000 international visitors each October. This year, the overarching theme of the nine-day event is: ‘Get Set!’. An ardent appeal to a mindset shift of both designers as public, shifting from preparation to action. In a world that is changing at warp speed, the right attitude is vital to forge creative coalitions and facing challenges together.

Through the exposition ‘Digital humans in the metaverse,’ initiators 4DR Studios and Effenaar Smart Venues proudly show the effects of two years of cooperating cleverly on challenging projects. Together we continuously explore the possibilities of video realistic, digital humans to be used in educational, behavioral changing, and art projects.

Experimental garden

The driving engine of this joint investigation is Chronosphere, our shared, advanced research program. In this creative playground, experimental content makers, relevant research institutes, and businesses have all the space to discover, research, and utilize the volumetric video technology to virtually shape their new ideas into virtual reality. In its existence, Chronosphere has already built up an attractive, vibrant portfolio. During DDW22, eleven projects present themselves in 3D in Videolab. A small taste:

Together with our affiliate Dutch Rose Media, we created the digital heritage production The French conquest of Maastricht for the city of Maastricht. This interactive exposition allows visitors to enter a digitalized version of a 250-year-old city model. At the volumetric capturing stage of 4DR Studios, actors transformed into three-dimensional holograms that show visitors around the 18th century. Turbulent times are brought to life through an augmented reality app.

Greater empathy for dementia

D’mentia tells a whole different story. In the Netherlands, approximately 300.000 people have dementia. Due to an aging population, this already substantial number will grow significantly in the coming years. 4DR Studios produced the holograms for this VR experience developed by IJsfontein. This latest virtual reality version of the accessible dementia training lets participants experience the intensity and fragility of dementia in early and advanced stages. Foundation into D’mentia’s goal is to increase empathy and understanding for dementia patients and their relatives. Also, healthcare providers can efficiently and cost-effectively offer this sympathetic training to their staff.

Into D'mentia - Get set for digital humans in the metaverse

Obsessed with murder

True Crime is hot. However, And here happened a murder by Finish national broadcaster Yle isn’t yet another podcast on the subject. Loaded with volumetric video and captivating storytelling, this documentary turns true crime enthusiasts into private investigators. At the crime scene, they follow the thoughts of the sole eyewitness … the murderer.

Future Static

Effenaar Smart Venue being our co-initiator, music is essential to the exhibition. Last but not least: multidisciplinary artist Coloray also is featured during ‘Digital humans in the metaverse’. For those who don’t know him: the world’s biggest deejays couldn’t stop spinning his banger ‘Can’t Stop’ back in 2019. His debut album Future Shock is the departure point to the virtual world of Coloray. He envisioned this realm crystal clear, and Chronosphere helped place himself in it. The result: a gallery of digital art, an impressive gaming dome, and three outrageous, uniquely styled shows, dynamically paired with a track of Future Static. Have a sneak peek:

Get set for DDW22!

We are excited to present these and all other projects at our Videolab during Dutch Design Week. We hope to see you too in 3D!
